IMG_4346At BTM Global, we believe our work is about more than just technology. It’s about our people and our relationships with clients and colleagues. We hope this “Meet the Team” series gives you a better understanding of the personalities and passions that make up BTM Global!

When Andy Huynh launched BTM Global in 2004, hiring the first employee was a big decision – and he made the right one. Trung Nguyen was brought on as a developer and 13 years later he’s still with us! We asked Trung about his experiences over the years and his recent move to the U.S.

You were BTM’s first employee! Why did you initially join the company?

I originally joined because I wanted to work for a U.S.-based company and have the opportunity to improve my technical skills and English language skills. Plus, there was a huge potential to grow the retail technology industry in Vietnam

What’s been the arc of your career here?

I’ve had the chance to hold several roles. I started out as a developer and now I am a technical lead. In this role, I’m responsible for the technical design and code review, and I work on project delivery and around-the-clock support.

I recently had the opportunity to move to the Minneapolis headquarters, so my family and I have moved to the U.S. I’m very excited about the new challenges professionally and the entirely new environment – there are great opportunities for my children here as well. I also feel like I’m able to contribute more to the company by working in the U.S

What’s kept you working at BTM?

IMG_3789We feel like a family here, and the teams in the U.S. and in Vietnam truly work as one. We work hard, but we play hard together; and the challenges keep me constantly growing and learning. I’ve had a long-time interest in U.S. culture as well, and I am particularly proud to work on large, complex projects for U.S. industry leaders.

What was your experience before BTM?

I have 15 years of experience in software development, most of it in retail software (merchandising, store, integration and data warehouse). Before BTM, I was a developer at a software company in Vietnam.

Tell us about your life outside of work.

I have a nine-year-old girl and three-year-old boy, and we are all adjusting to our new life here in the U.S. When I worked in Vietnam, I participated in BTM’s charity efforts, such as building homes for those living in poverty in Vietnam, and I hope to continue with those connections.
